• Police Accountability Now!
There is an obvious problem in American law enforcement--the excessive use of force. The problem is most prevalent and persistent as it relates to Black and Hispanic men and women, but white men and women are not immune. Black Americans seem to bear the brunt of law enforcement violence where: • Police fatally shoot unarmed black people in the US is more than three times as high as it is for white people. • Black drivers were about 20% more likely to be stopped than white drivers. • Once stopped, Black drivers were searched up to two times as often as white drivers, although they were statistically less likely to be carrying illegal items. • African-Americans were 3.7 times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than whites, even though their rate of marijuana usage was comparable. • African-Americans are imprisoned at five times the rate of white Americans and twice the rate of Hispanic-Americans.
